Winner of the opener in Fuji last month, the Nissan GT-R Motul Autech crew arrived last weekend in Okayama, the setting of the second round, with a ballast of 40 kg. A handicap they intended to reduce by adopting an audacious strategy!
Aware that it would be impossible for them to fight for victory, the team therefore decided to take advantage of the various test runs to focus on their tyres. They could therefore define the best possible set-up while their contenders were fighting it out to be awarded the first places.
Despite a sixth-row grid start, Tréluyer and Motoyama saw their strategy and efforts pay off since, each in turn, managed to keep up pace and finally crossed the chequered flag in 5th position. A few days from the third round, to be held next month in Sepang and at which the team will have to put up with 56 kg of ballast, this performance allows them to keep their Championship lead by 26 points.
Note should also be taken of the seventh position of 2010 Champions, Loic Duval and Takashi Kogure, whose team, Weider, is also supported by Motul. At the wheel of their HSV-010, the duo is currently in 12th position in the overall standings.
