The Indian bike adventurer: “I go to the places few people know about”

08.10.2020

For many people, motorcycling is a chance to escape, to hit the open road and get away from it all. Rajin Ramachandran is no exception. Rajin lives in India where he explores the beautiful countryside on his motorbike and posts pictures of his adventures to his loyal social following. He’s a big fan of Motul’s lubricants, too. We gave him a call to find out more.

The Indian bike adventurer: “I go to the places few people know about”

Rajin, you’re built up quite a following on Instagram for your bike adventures. Can you tell us about them?

I really love nature and exploring it on my bike. I live in India, and I’m much more into riding off the beaten track than on the road. I travel up into the wild hills of Kerala a lot, but I also like to explore new places whenever I can. At every city I visit, there will be some places where only a few people go or some of them only know about. These are the kinds of places I like to explore.

You have Motul stickers on your bike. Are you partners with Motul or do you just like the oil?

[Laughs]. No, I don’t have any official connection with Motul. I just really like the oil. I find it makes the bike so much smoother to ride and is better for the bike mechanically.

What motorbike do you have and where do you go with it?

I now have a Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. It’s a really versatile and fast bike. I like to get out of the city as much as I can, and it’s the perfect bike for riding up hills. I really like getting to the top for the view of the landscape and the waterfalls.

Where does your love of bikes and riding come from?

From my uncle. He owns a bike showroom. When I was a child, he would visit us during the holidays and he always arrived on the latest bikes. He had a different one every time he visited. It was so inspiring for me as a child and that’s where my love of bikes started.

Has lockdown put a stop to your bike adventures?

Yeah, definitely. Right now, I can only go to some of the places near to my house. Which isn’t so much fun. I really love to be out exploring. I can’t wait to get out again.

With riding being limited, you must have had a lot of time to plan future adventures. What’s on the cards?

First, I would like to travel across the whole of India on my bike. But it’s a huge country, and will take a long time to both plan and do. After that, I’m planning a trip to LA. My brother lives there and I want to travel around California by bike and see all the interesting places out there.

Have you turned your love of motorcycles into a job?

No, I haven’t really thought about biking and travelling as a job. For me, it’s just a hobby, something I’m really passionate about. When I’m not riding my motorbikes, I’m a teacher. And as much as I love being on my bike, I really enjoy teaching kids.
