Motul has partnered with Suzuki Singapore for the launch of the all-new Suzuki Swift Sport, with our high-performance lubricants selected to boost the engine performance of the hot hatch. To celebrate this collaboration with Suzuki, Motul will be offering limited customers a complimentary upgrade to Motul’s engine oil for an entire year when servicing their car with Suzuki Singapore. To find out more, we talked to Jay Joel Ong, assistant marketing manager and motorsports specialist at Motul Singapore.
Jay, can you tell us more about the partnership?
The partnership started with the intention of two renowned sporty automotive brands in Asia, Motul and Suzuki, working together. Given our close working relationship with the people from Inchcape Singapore, we had some discussions over coffee and the opportunity to collaborate on the Swift Sport with a hybrid 1.4-turbo engine in Singapore came up. It was a very exciting opportunity as the Swift Sport is very popular with enthusiasts in Asia, as is Motul. We had to jump on board with this opportunity.
Motul has a specially-developed hybrid lubricant. Is this the one Suzuki Singapore will use?
Positioned as a sporty hatchback, what came about is we thought “why don't we start providing our high-performance lubricants to Suzuki owners to elevate their driving experience?”. Motul’s 100% synthetic lubricants are developed with reduction of internal friction, improving engine cleanliness and superb oil film strength for an elevated driving experience for customers. Hence Motul will give limited Suzuki Swift Sport customers a free upgrade to the Motul lubricants for the first year.
Why did Suzuki Singapore choose to work with Motul on this?
It goes back to the heritage and the rest of the global partnerships that we have with Suzuki. Both brands have a long history of development in motorsports and we have several Suzuki testimonials from the UK, Italy and Spain. Because of all these testimonials and what we've done together in other parts of the world, Motul Asia Pacific Is building on this and bringing similar collaborations to Asia.
How was the launch at the track?
The media and participants loved it. They were saying they could feel how punchy the car was, even though it was such a small track. After being in lockdown and having cabin fever, so many people were excited to get out on the track!
What’s next for the partnership?
For us, in Asia Pacific, we are calling out to other dealers in the region to form more partnerships like this in Asia.
What’s the Motul market like in Singapore right now?
Asia is a well-developed market, and many people don't mind spending the extra for high-performance lubricants due to the fact that more people understand the benefit that lubricants contribute to a better driving experience, a healthier engine and help to avoid pricey repairs. I would say we're doing quite well!
