The Dakar Rally represents the ultimate endurance test: 8,000+ km of stages, sand, temperatures exceeding 50°C, and continuous high-load operation, NGEN Core®-lubricated machines completed all stages.
How is re-refined base oil made?
At the heart of NGEN Core® lies a rigorous, high-precision re-refining process that transforms used lubricating oils into premium-quality Re-Refined Base Oil (RRBO), ready to power your next ride.
It all starts with collection: used oils are gathered and brought to the re-refining facility. From there, a pre-treatment stage removes water and solid particles, ensuring only the purest material moves forward. The oil then undergoes hydrotreatment, an advanced process that eliminates remaining contaminants and restores the oil's quality to meet the highest performance standards. Finally, a distillation stage separates the different oil fractions, yielding a clean, high-grade Re-Refined Base Oil (RRBO), proven to be at least equivalent to virgin base oils in terms of purity and performance.
This RRBO is then blended with the same high-quality additives used across Motul's full range, giving used oil a second life without any compromise on the performance you expect.

Does the use of RRBO modify oil change intervals?
No. Thanks to their advanced refining, RRBO-based oils offer oxidation stability and wear protection equivalent to that of virgin oils. Standard or extended oil change intervals therefore remain applicable, in accordance with OEM recommendations.
Has NGEN Core® been tested in competition?
Yes. Motul uses championships as open-air laboratories to validate its products in real and extreme conditions. NGEN Core® technology has already been tested in the Dakar Rally, as well as in championships in France and Germany, where a series of races dedicated to the Kawasaki ZX-4 RR took place. NGEN Core® technology has confirmed its performance and reliability in the most demanding conditions.
