Make the most of winter days: The ideal time to care for motorcycle equipment
Cologne, February 2026 — The bike clean-cleaned and mothballed hibernation, it's inhospitably cold and grey outside — winter time for motorcycle fans. Nothing you can do to prepare for the coming season? Far from it: Anyone who is already done planning their tour for 2026 should use the cold season to maintain their two-wheeler equipment. Because one thing is clear: With a helmet in top condition and a freshly maintained station wagon, the start of the season is even more fun.
But what needs to be considered? Philipp Miks, Product Manager at MOTUL Germany, gives valuable tips for maintaining the equipment.
1. Care of clothing
Fans of fabric clothing will be happy to hear it: After the obligatory washing machine round on a gentle cycle, you can simply hang it on the hook or in the cupboard. Important: Be sure to remove the protectors beforehand and only use laundry detergent that is approved by the manufacturer, otherwise the protective function of the breathable membranes will quickly be over. It is best to impregnate it fresh afterwards so that the rain will reliably stay “outside” in the coming season.
Motorcycle fans, on the other hand, should pay a little more attention to their beloved leather outfit so that the “second skin” remains as soft as it is durable in the coming season. The leather service is particularly easy when a combined cleaning and care product such as MOTUL MC CARE M3 Perfect Leather is used. In one step, this removes the residue from previous trips and at the same time makes heavily stressed leather parts supple and durable again. When used regularly, this advanced leather care cream ensures a long life of two-wheeled equipment — from combos to gloves and boots to leather saddlebags.

2. Helmet care
A well-maintained helmet is not only an advantage in terms of driving comfort, but it also contributes to safety on the motorcycle, so maintaining the mechanics of the outer and sun visor should be part of the winter check. But first things first: Of course, thorough cleaning of the outer shell of the helmet and the interior is the first requirement for bikers: tailor-made products such as the M1 HELMET & VISOR CLEAN from MOTUL are perfect for outdoor cleaning. The agent in the practical spray bottle cleans the helmet both gently and thoroughly from dirt from the last trips, protecting paint and design elements.
When cleaning the outer and, if available, the inner sun visor, it is best to completely remove these in order to optimally reach all corners and angles — keyword: locking mechanism. But beware: When cleaning additional, internal anti-fog visors, the manufacturer's instructions must be observed! Now is also the right time to clean the visor mechanism: Coarser dirt should be removed with a cotton swab or, if necessary, a brush or a fine brush and, if necessary, a little soapy water. The visor mechanism and seal are then pleased to receive a few drops of silicone or multi-oil, such as the MC CARE P4 EZ LUBE from MOTUL, which can be applied exactly to the desired location with its optional dosing tube.
When servicing the interior, most helmets have the option of completely removing them and bringing them back into shape by hand with a mild detergent. However, removal and installation is often associated with some fiddling. It is much easier and just as effective to use a cleaner specifically designed for this task. M2 HELMET INTERIOR CLEAN from MOTUL saves the process of removing the food and can be perfectly dosed with the integrated spray head. The active ingredient not only has high deep cleansing power, but also removes annoying odors and is also dermatologically tested.
In any case, if you take a little time and use the right cleaning and care products, you can start the season again next spring with top equipment!
