Reduce nitrogen oxides without risks: MOTUL CRYSTAL PROTECT AdBlue® additive protects modern passenger car diesel engines

(Cologne, January 30, 2026) — Since the introduction of the EURO 6 emission standard, the nitrogen oxide limits for newly registered diesel cars have been so low that some of them can only be achieved with SCR technology. By injecting AdBlue® into a nitrogen oxide catalyst, the harmful nitrogen oxides contained in diesel exhaust gases are converted into nitrogen and water. The disadvantage: AdBlue®, a urea solution, tends to form crystals which clog the AdBlue® injection or even the SCR catalyst and impair the function of reducing nitrogen oxide. This is where the new additive from MOTUL comes in: CRYSTAL PROTECT AdBlue® cleans and prevents the crystallization of AdBlue and ensures perfect SCR function.

By adding CRYSTAL PROTECT AdBlue®, existing crystal layers in the AdBlue® tank can be removed. This does not impair the composition and function of the urea solution. The innovative MOTUL additive also prevents the formation of further crystals — which occur particularly during cold starts and in short-distance operation and at sub-zero temperatures. CRYSTAL PROTECT AdBlue® thus ensures smooth operation of urea dosing systems and the SCR catalyst.

Mixing is almost always worthwhile
The addition of CRYSTAL PROTECT AdBlue® from MOTUL is almost always worthwhile for diesel vehicles that are equipped with SCR systems — especially if they are not used daily, or are often used over short distances or when there are severe temperature fluctuations. The use of CRYSTAL PROTECT AdBlue® can therefore be an important investment for private individuals as well as for fleet operators and for businesses in order to avoid expensive subsequent damage to the vehicle.
