SCUDERIA CAMERON GLICKENHAUS CLINCHES FIRST PODIUM PLACE AT 1000 MILES OF SEBRING

24.03.2022

After a long winter break, team Glickenhaus decamped for the legendary 1000 Miles of Sebring race and started off with a victory. At the bumpy Sebring circuit and a thrilling race, which was flagged because of thunderstorms, the Motul-backed Glickenhaus team clinched its first podium spot. This is the first time for the 007 Hypercar since it started racing in WEC last year. As the team is packing the car and are shipping it for the upcoming 6H of Spa at the infamous Francorchamps track in the Belgian Ardennes, we caught up with team owner Jim on his feelings after the race.

Jim, congratulations. How do you feel after this first race result?

Racing a World Endurance Championship Race at Sebring was very emotional. We've never raced here and have been warned that Sebring is one of the toughest tracks in the world. Just driving around Sebring has cracked the chassis of major OEMs, and that is without even crashing. It's quite different from Le Mans, especially for the setup. By the end of the race, we were able to figure out our suspension settings, and we began to run faster. Finishing third overall is a fantastic feeling. Especially as we were one of the only cars and teams that has never raced Sebring before.

Besides the Hypercar, you are also going full throttle on the production road car series. Does the racing promote the road car sales?

We parked a road-legal Boot and an 004 near our pit, and we took several new orders. We now have orders for more than 300 004s and are expanding production capacity to meet demand. We also have serious interest from several teams and individuals to buy one of our Hypercars and race it alongside us next year.

Ryan Briscoe, one of your pilots commented before the race:

“We're excited about the programme and it’s a great story that we keep going. I mean we only started last year, and everything is brand new. It's a very small group of people putting together a very big project. It's a steep learning curve and continues to be so. The last time the car ran on the track before coming to Sebring was at Le Mans. So, we unpacked the car, and we had some small updates. It's nice to be back on the track and we will continue to learn.”

What can we expect next from Glickenhaus, Jim?

Ryan certainly has a point. Our 004C will race again at the Nürburgring in Germany this year and soon be homologated as a GT3. We look forward to seeing her continue to race the WEC and Le Mans starting in 2024 besides our factory 007 LMHs. In general, we look forward to learning, improving, and our next race. We are very grateful to have a great team at Glickenhaus and to work closely with sponsors such as Motul, who back us and support us on a technological level and believe we can race and really win.
