The fourth round of the World Superbike Championship took place last weekend at the very rapid Monza track (Italy). For the first of his three races of the season on 'home turf' (the WSBK championship will return to Italy in Misano, then Imola), Michel Fabrizio, rider of Team Suzuki Alstare, for which Motul is a technical partner, clinched a first podium this season, which many observers consider a just reward for all the hard work put in since his arrival in the team.
Despite a fall in the tests, the Italian rider battled on stubbornly on his GSX-R, took a hard-fought-for fifth in race one when he set the fastest lap, and then clinched the third step of the podium in race two after a penalty devastated the chances of another Italian who had his heart set on shining in front of the crowd of 166,500: Max Biaggi!
The entire Alstare team now of course has its eyes riveted on the remaining two steps...
1// Carlos Checa (Ducati – 145 pts)
2// Marco Melandri (Yamaha – 118 pts)
3// Max Biaggi (Aprilia – 117 pts)
7// Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki – 74 pts) - Motul
