After the postponement of the opening round of the Super GT at Okoyama following the terrible earthquake that devastated Japan on March 11, round two at Fuji was an emotional occasion for drivers and fans of Super GT. In front of more than 40,000 spectators who braved torrential rain, Benoit Tréluyer and Satoshi Motoyama dominated the race with a drive of clinical precision in appalling conditions.
However, the weekend began in difficult circumstances as far as Team Motul Autech were concerned. Because of the lack of opportunities over the winter to carry out any significant wheel testing and therefore make any adjustments, the Japanese team, for whom Motul provides technical support, relied to Bridgestone tyres after an entire season using Michelin.
In spite of all this Benoît Tréluyer, who started the race sixth on the grid in his Nissan GT-R R35, moved rapidly through the field. Leading the Lexus team of Daisuke Ito and Kazuya Oshima by more than 16 seconds, Tréluyer handed the wheel over to Satoshi Motoyama for the final 22 laps, and he drove cautiously in treacherous conditions to ensure they crossed the line in first place !
