Aubervilliers, December 17, 2025 — Motul announces the update of several references in its 8100 ECO-lite automotive lubricant products to the new API SQ and ILSAC GF-7.
For Motul, this update reflects its long-standing craft in high-performance engine oil development. Built on technical expertise and closely aligned with the latest industry standards, Motul formulations are designed to meet the evolving requirements of modern gasoline engines, which are becoming increasingly compact and efficient in response to fuel consumption and emissions targets.
“The introduction of API SQ and ILSAC GF-7 specifications across the 8100 range illustrates our ongoing commitment to anticipating technological and environmental developments. Motul continues to provide professionals with lubricants that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.”
Mark Grunert, Head of Product
Introduced in 2025, the API SQ specification issued by the American Petroleum Institute, along with its fuel-economy variant API SQ-RC, succeeds the API SP and API SP-RC standards. These new specifications deliver significant improvements in fuel economy, protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), engine cleanliness, and component durability.
Certification procedures have also evolved, with updates to several standardized engine tests, including Sequence IIH (high-temperature deposits and viscosity), Sequence VH (low-temperature deposits), and Sequence VI (fuel economy). These enhancements enable API SQ-certified oils to deliver performance levels exceeding those compliant with the API SP standard.
The MOTUL 8100 ECO-lite products are also aligned with the new ILSAC GF-7 standard, developed by the International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee in collaboration with the American Petroleum Institute.
Products certified to API SQ / ILSAC GF-7 remain fully compliant with the previous API SP / ILSAC GF-6 specifications, ensuring full backward compatibility.
These new specifications apply to several references within the MOTUL 8100 ECO-lite products:
8100 ECO-lite 0W-16: API SQ-RC / ILSAC GF-7B
8100 ECO-lite 0W-20: API SQ-RC / ILSAC GF-7A
8100 ECO-lite 0W-30: API SQ-RC / ILSAC GF-7A
8100 ECO-lite 5W-20: API SQ-RC / ILSAC GF-7A
8100 ECO-lite 5W-30: API SQ-RC / ILSAC GF-7A
