Qatar hosted on 12 March the inaugural round of the UIM Aquabike World Championship.
Championship entrants, teams Race Spirit and Zapata Racing, both of which are supported technically by Motul, made a brilliant start to the season. Indeed, Jérémy Poret and Julie Bulteau (team Race Spirit) won their respective races, thereby taking the lead of the championship in 'SKI F1' and 'SKI Ladies F1'.
Note should also be made of the very fine performance by young Portuguese rider Stéfania Balzer who clinched a highly promising second place.
In the 'Runabout F1' category, for his first official ride on his new jet-ski motorised by a 2-stroke Mercury V6 engine, Franky Zapata (team Zapata Racing) also dominated his category by powering his MZR V6 to first place.
