Speedworks teams up with Motul and Witham Group: This year is no development year

28.02.2019

Without a doubt, touring car racing is the purest form of circuit racing. Short races with evenly matched cars produce door-to-door action enjoyed by people the world over. That’s why Motul and Witham Group are very happy to announce a reinforcement of their partnership with the Speedworks racing team.

For the upcoming BTCC season, Speedworks is developing an all-new Toyota Corolla. We want to know all about it, so we had a quick chat with Amy Dick, who runs the team along with her husband, Christian.

Speedworks teams up with Motul and Witham Group: This year is no development year

You’ve designed a new car and will be competing with it in the 2019 BTCC Championship. How is the development going?

Well, the car is nearly finished. It finally looks like a car now, and we’re preparing to test it on the track of Calafat, in Spain. So we’re nearly there.

What made you change cars when your previous one was so successful?

We’ve always gotten huge support from Toyota GB, and with the launch of the new Toyota Corolla we have an opportunity to further partner with Toyota and turn their new hatchback into a race car. The Corolla is a very important name in motorsport with a long racing heritage, and we actually own one of the classic Corolla race cars as well.

A new season with a new car is always a challenge. What are your expectations?

When developing a new car, there are definitely always going to be challenges. But we don’t see this year as a development year or anything. We want to go straight for the win from the start. We had great pace last year, so we don’t see why we can’t repeat that this season. Our main aim is actually for the 2020 season, which is to be successful with the Corolla in 2019 so we can enter two cars in 2020.

For 2019 you’re fully teaming up with Motul. How did the partnership come to be?

Motul has been a long-standing partner of us, and the partnership has evolved into a more substantial one.

What does Motul mean to you and your team as a brand?

Motul is synonymous with Motorsport isn’t it? For us, it has been very important and we use it in all our engines. Not only in the touring car, but we also have an Aston Martin and an LMP3 racer as well. We basically use all the consumables and of course the engine oils. Even more so, it was the Witham group that introduced Swindon Engines to Motul and they’ve now adopted it as their recommended product. The Swindon Engine is a spec engine we use in our car along with about 30-40 percent of the grid.
