The third round of the Super GT Championship was held on 18 and 19 June at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. After the win by team Motul Autech at the first round, team Weider Honda Racing (also supported technically by Motul) mounted in its turn the highest step of the podium in front of more than 51,000 spectators!
After their superb win one week earlier at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was only to be expected that at the beginning of the weekend the main focus of media attention would be on the new 'stars': Benoit Tréluyer and André Lotterer, respectively riders of teams Nismo Motul Autech and Lexus Team Petronas Tom’s.
Nevertheless, whether during the qualifying sessions or in the race, team Weider Honda Racing, Champion last year, didn't leave any crumbs for its rivals. Brilliantly driven by Loic Duval (also present at Le Mans on 11 and 12 June at the wheel of the Peugeot 908 of team Oreca Matmut which took fifth place) and Takashi Kogure, the Honda HSV – 010 led the race from start to finish, clinching its first success of the season. It finished just ahead of the Nissan GT-R R35 of team Mola, also supported technically by Motul.
The riders of team Nismo Motul Autech however suffered a slight disappointment as they took a modest 14th place owing to problems with their tyres.
Next race at Sugo on 30 and 31 July!
