Michel Fabrizio fights to fifth at Assen

The Team Suzuki Alstare rider fought his way up brilliantly from the fourth row of the grid to take fifth place in the opening race of the second meeting of the year, at Assen on 17 April.

This encouraging result underscores the efforts made by Michel Fabrizio who, it should be remembered, was participating in merely his second race with Team Suzuki Alstare. Despite a poor start and a front tyre that was almost completely gone at the end of the race, the rider put on a thrilling duel with Marco Melandri (Yamaha) right until the final chicane.

Fabrizio again fell prey to serious tyre problems in race 2 when he was battling it out with Leon Haslam (BMW) and Eugene Laverty (Yamaha), and this time the Italian rider had to put up with seventh under the chequered flag. Next event at Monza on 8 May!
