Formula Nippon - Japan - Montegi (4 to 7)

12.08.2011

Minor setback for Naoki Yamamoto

Having already scored a pole position at Suzuka and then finished in the top 10 in both Autopolis (5th place) and Fuji (9th place), the up and coming Naoki Yamamoto had already shown that he is one to watch this season.

So not surprisingly when the fourth round of the Formula Nippon championship was staged in Motegi on the weekend of August 6 and 7, Yamamoto was hoping to produce another good result. And when the team Mugen driver (with the technical assistance of Motul) recorded the seventh fastest time in qualifying the chances looked good.

But things didn’t go according to plan on race day, and despite Yamamoto getting a good start his hopes of a top 10 finish were dashed owing to a problem with a wheel during a pit-stop, and he had to settle for 14th place.

Round Five of the Formula Nippon season will be in Suzuka on the weekend of September 3 and 4.
