Invincible, McKenzie wins the championship title

18.09.2012

That weekend, Damien McKenzie was quite simply unbeatable. However the meet had begun with difficulty, with a strong wind on Saturday, preventing the practice from taking place normally. The last round of the Australian Formula Powerboat GP, taking place at  Port Macquarie, therefore appeared to be rather tricky, weather conditions limiting tests to a single session and the number of races to two, instead of the three normally scheduled for Sunday.

After qualifying on pole for McKenzie Racing, a team supported by Motul, Damien McKenzie did all he could to erase the failure of the previous event at Wagga where he had to retire following a technical problem. At Port Macquarie, despite a stretch of water that was difficult because of awkward sunlight at some points of the circuit, his speed and tactics discouraged his pursuers, quite simply powerless against such expertise. Shane Vella attempted to pass him at the start of both races, but unsuccessfully. This pitiless domination allowed McKenzie to win the championship title.

There will be little respite before the next season as the first 2013 event will take place on 3 and 4 November at Wagga.

Standings
