SWM: RESURRECTED FROM THE DIRT

09.08.2018

There are many Italian motorbike manufacturers and a lot of them are world famous. SWM isn’t one of those. In fact, it’s had a rough ride and the brand disappeared entirely for 20 years. But that doesn’t mean that SWM isn’t one to keep an eye on.

SWM: RESURRECTED FROM THE DIRT

SWM is relatively young compared to other brands, even in its original form. It was founded in 1971, when two friends – keen off-road racing enthusiasts – were watching Italian brands being dominated by foreign brands. The friends decided to build their own bike in the hope of regaining Italian former glory – and they did! SWM was competitive right from the get-go.

Although the brand was popular and competitive, it was beset by problems and had to cease production in 1984. However, twenty years later, Italian engineer Ampelio Macchi brought SWM back from the grave and SWM surprised the world again with six new models and a new start in the competition.

SWM is now participating in the European and Italian Supermoto championships, where they are consistently achieving respectable results and podium places.

‘The Supermoto category is the perfect marriage between our products and racing, road
and off-road. With the challenge of the Supermoto, SWM is moving into sports activities. For us, it is a great pleasure to be among the protagonists and  in direct contact with the best of Supermoto racing.’
