The dream cars of the Geneva International Motor Show

07.03.2019

Many motor shows consist of the usual flurry of press conferences covering face lifts and new models of machines we’ve known for years, with the odd exception of something special. The Geneva Motor Show, however, is a little different. Alongside the big carmakers’ usual business, there are many smaller boutique brands showing what they’ve been developing over the last twelve months. Here are a few standouts from this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

1: The Automobili Pininfarina Battista

The iconic design house, known for creating some of your favourite Ferraris, is becoming a car maker, and what a car they are making… Introducing the Pinifarina Battista, an all-electric hypercar with stunning performance and power figures: 1.900 hp and 2.300 Nm, 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds and, even more impressively, it takes a mere 12 seconds to reach 300 km/h. Equally impressive is the price tag of € 2 million—but that’s nothing compared to the next car.

2: Bugatti La Voiture Noire

‘Shocking’ is the best way to describe this car. Bugatti’s Stephan Winkelman (the former Lamborghini CEO) took the stage to present a one-off car that is an ode the legendary Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. Underneath the black body houses the same 1.500 hp 8.0l W16 you find in the Chiron. Price tag? The figures vary somewhere between €11 and 16,7 million, but don’t start counting your money just yet, as it has already found its owner.

3. Koenigsegg Jesko

Can Koenigsegg do better than the Agera RS? That was the question everyone was asking.  During this year’s Geneva Motorshow, Christian Von Koenigsegg replied with a firm yes, by launching the new Jesko. Named after his father, this ‘mega car’ (producting more than one megawatt in power) is the fastest Koenigsegg ever, topping out at 485 km/h. This is possible thanks to a twin turbo V8 equipped with the world’s lightest crankshaft and a newly developed, super-swift gearbox.

4. Aston Martin RB003

If the Aston Martin Valkyrie is a bit much, there is always the RB-003. Long story short: take the good bits of the Valkyrie and trim away some of the extreme stuff. The V12 does have to make way for a smaller V6, but we do like the look of it.

5. Piëch Mark zero

What if you grew up the son of the president of one of the world’s largest auto makers? You’d start your own car company, of course. That is why Anton Piëch launched his brand, Piëch, and the fully electric boutique GT car the Mark zero to go with it.
