ZAK SCHOLES, THE MOTUL LE MANS SUPERFAN: WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!

21.06.2019

Roaring engines during 24 hours, the best in class Endurance racers, World’s best racing teams and mechanics, 61 high-performance cars, 4.000 kilometers ... The 24h Le Mans at the Circuit de la Sarthre, provided once again the perfect location for a Motul Superfan experience at the fastest and almost longest endurance race on earth. Zak Scholes (UK) was the lucky Motul Superfan last weekend.

ZAK SCHOLES, THE MOTUL LE MANS SUPERFAN: WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!

Zak, can you please introduce yourself?

Of course, I live in Uckfield in the South of the England. I am a very big Motorsports fan, Endurance racing and sports cars in general. I try to visit as many events as I possibly can and follow almost all the races live or via the internet.

We are currently at the Parade before the big race together with the supporting partners, the classic and the GT Sports cars driving through the Le Mans village. How is the atmosphere so far?

Absolutely stunning. I think the atmosphere is good and the weather is better than I expected, so yes, perfect.

Is this your first visit at Le Mans?

Oh no, already my eight time. I come back here every year, it’s such a magical place for Motorsport enthusiasts like me. I’ve done the 24 hours six times and the Le Mans Classic twice. Last year I’ve been also to Road Atlanta, the Motul Petit Le Mans endurance race in the USA.

Zak, can you please introduce yourself?

So, you like to travel around the world to visit all kind of Motorsport events?

Indeed, I am a bit of a globetrotter, I go wherever I possibly can, and my budget allows me. It’s an exciting hobby, every race is different, and the sound of roaring engines, difficult overtakes and the suspension who will be the first to pass the chequered flag, never gets boring.

Do you have any professional involvement in Motorsports?

No, I would like to get into Motorsports design and graphic design. I am focusing on learning how to do racecar livery design. When I used to play videogames, one of the features allowed you to create your own livery. I practiced a lot in the game, and I would like to export the idea into the real world. I am not professionally involved, it has been a hobby project until now and I am self-learning, but who knows. It’s something I enjoy and dedicate a lot of time on, learning new software, designing a livery is a bit niche, but a man must follow his dreams!

What are your expectations for the weekend?

To have a good time to be honest. I will enjoy the surrounding, take a look behind the scenes, walk the pitlane and I am really looking forward to the Helicopter flight over the circuit. Though it will probably ruin le Mans for me, as I will never be able to look at it the same way afterwards, it certainly raises the bar (laughs!). It is nice to break away from the usual commotion. I wasn’t expecting the Superfan experience, so I take the experience with both hands. I will simply enjoy the full experience!
