Although the Goodwood Revival is about much more than just racing, the action on the track remains the highlight of the weekend. The event offers a vast array of races on both four and two wheels. But which are the races you really don’t want to miss?
If you think Goodwood Revival, you think spectacular track action. Classic motor racing offers an exhilarating display that is often a bit lost in modern motorsport. Nowadays everything is neat and tidy, any loss of traction equals a loss of valuable time. Add in systems such as ABS and traction control and the fun is almost over.
In the “good old days”, however, things were a little different as the only way to fling a classic race car through a corner was right at the edge of traction. During the Goodwood Revival you will witness drivers, or should I say, Gladiators, taking cars like the monstrous Shelby Cobra by the scruff of the neck and flick it into the corner with the wheels lit up, meanwhile spitting smoke and flames from the exhaust. Drivers hoping it won’t spit them off in the grass at the other end of the track.
A stark contrast to the Jaguars E-types whose drivers add surgical-like steering input and make the car graciously slide over the track like figure skaters. This is just some of the spectacle you can expect from races like the Kinrara trophy or the TT race.
You can expect equal excitement from the St. Mary’s Trophy. A race where classic and powerful Jaguars meet their match represented by swift and nimble Austin Mini’s, a proper David vs. Goliath battle! Where David might actually take the top spot.
If you love two-wheel action, enjoy the Barry Sheen Memorial where the various riding styles, employed to wrestle these classic machines along the track, are very different compared to modern day bike racing.
