Motul expands relationship with Nissan NISMO

History is important to Motul – our understanding of where we have come from helps chart the way forward – and part of that history is the long-standing and loyal relationship with Nissan NISMO, the Japanese motorsport giant.

Motul has supported NISMO-entered cars in the European-based Blancpain GT Series for many years, particularly since the launch of the Nissan GT Academy which has so successfully brought gamers from their consoles and sofas to the cockpit of Nissan racing cars, competing alongside professional drivers.

A perfect example of this was Motul’s support as lubricant partner in 2015 to Nissan GT Academy Team RJN drivers Katsumasa Chiyo, Alex Buncombe and Wolfgang Reip who claimed the Blancpain Endurance Series Pro Drivers’ Championship.

This support is in addition to the long and enduring partnership with NISMO in Japan’s Super GT Series, which has to date resulted in two drivers’ titles for the famed Motul #23 car (2014 & 2015) among 14 GT500 titles in the past 14 years, plus Nissan’s FIA GT1 world title in 2011.  This partnership will be celebrated at the NISMO Festival at Fuji International Speedway after the end of the 2017 season, an event that Motul has been an official partner with since last year.

Stronger, faster, forward…together

In 2017 the links between the two companies will be strengthened further with Nissan NISMO’s entry to the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, which will run under the banner of Motul Team RJN.  Two Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3s will be entered in the Pro class, and the new-for-2017 livery design has been inspired by the Motul #23 car in Super GT.

The GT3 cars, unveiled earlier today during the official test session for the championship at Circuit Paul Ricard in southern France, will be driven by an international line-up of NISMO drivers, former GT Academy winners and GT racing young guns:  #22 – Struan Moore (GBR), Matt Parry (GBR), Matt Simmons (AUS) and #23 – Alex Buncombe (GBR), Katsumasa Chiyo (JPN), Lucas Ordóñez (ESP).

Special cars need special products, and for this programme the NISMO Competition Oil by Motul range comes into its own.  It comprises four products (3 engine oils and 1 differential oil) specially developed for the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3, including 2193E 5W40 and 2189E 75W140 which are OEM recommended.

An appetite for performance

Hélène Zaugg, Motul Head of Communication: “In addition to a love of motorsports, an endless appetite for performance and quality, we have something else in common with Nissan and NISMO: a thirst for challenge. The Blancpain Endurance Series is one of the most competitive GT championships in the world and when Nissan NISMO asked us to further support them in this arena, we didn’t hesitate for a second!  See you on 22/23 April in Monza for the first race of the season.”

Takao Katagiri, NISMO President and CEO: “Motul has been a great partner to NISMO including technical partnership in Super GT for many years, and expanded to partner us at NISMO Festival last year. We are very pleased to further extend this relationship with Motul partnership of the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3s in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.”
