Todd Waters clinches his first win of the season

25.05.2012

Todd Waters, in team Motul Pirelli Suzuki, has progressed even beyond his excellent result of 13 May: at the fifth round of the Australian Championship, on 20 May at Murray Bridge, he won in the Pro Open category! This event marks the exact midway point of the season and so it augurs well for the end of the championship. 'For me, this weekend was almost perfect,' confirmed the Australian rider. 'I took three good starts and, in race one, I led from start to finish. I also took the lead in the second and, in the third, I had to battle hard with Brad [Anderson] who managed to pass in front. But I took great pleasure!'

His team-mate and former New-Zealand champion, Cody Cooper, was a bit less lucky, with starts still somewhat difficult: he nevertheless secured a 4th place in race one and a solid 3rd in the second, but a fall in race three made him 5th in the overall standings. 'Practising starts all week didn't really pay off,' he grumbled at the arrival. 'I was pleased with the first two races, but my fall in the third didn't make things easy.'

In Pro Lite, Scott Columb finished 6th in the overall standings, after regular results in the three races: 'I've not had much luck recently, but if I continue to work on my starts I'm sure to end up on the podium!'

We sincerely hope he does! The time between now and the next meet will allow the riders to get ready for the last five rounds, as it is not before 1 July at Hervey Bay.
