Thiriet keeps the championship lead

24.07.2012

Following the cancellation of the Zolder round, the 6 Hours of Donington race was therefore the second of the season in the European Le Mans Series. Motul was present there as a partner of the championship and also by providing its technical support to several teams: Status GP, Greaves Motorsport, Pecom Racing, Jota and Thiriet by TDS Racing.

Having left from fourth place, team Baguette/Enjalbert/Pla's Morgan-Nissan gave a perfect race and managed to win. For their part, Pierre Thiriet and Mathias Beche, who won the first round of the season in Le Castellet, drove their Oreca-Nissan brilliantly well by remaining among the leaders for all the race. However, Mathias Beche received a 30 second stop-and-go penalty, which made team Thiriet by TDS Racing miss the first step of the podium. 'We would no doubt have won today without the penalty incurred because of excessive speed in the pit lane', regretted Beche at the arrival. 'Our limiter did not work correctly. But we finished second and keep the championship lead, which is the main point!'

For its part, the Motul award for technical performance was awarded to team OAK Racing and more specifically to the winning crew. This prize rewards the technical skill of all the team which, despite various incidents during the trials, finally won the event. It was handed by Andy Prill, manager of Maxted-Page & Prill Ltd., Motul's distributor for the car range in England.

The third round of the season is scheduled in the Czech Republic, in Brno, on 7-9 September.
