Reliability will be key

14.04.2017

The world’s leading sports prototype and GT drivers will be gathered together over the Easter weekend of 14-16 April for the start of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), and Motul will be with involved throughout the entirety of the season as Official Lubricant Partner.

The season begins at the historic Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom and crosses four continents for nine rounds which include, as its cornerstone, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June – a race with which Motul has a long and illustrious history.  Competitors will be pitching man and machine against the elements in six hour races (all except for Le Mans) which promise to be some of the most exciting motorsport entertainment anywhere in the world.

Iconic automotive manufacturers such as Porsche, Toyota, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Ford are joined by the best independent teams racing today, and these include a name familiar to all Francophone countries – Vaillante Rebellion.

Competing in the 10-strong LMP2 category, Motul will support three teams from a technical standpoint.  The two Swiss Vaillante Rebellion cars will feature a special association between the famous Graton comic book character, Michel Vaillant, luxury watch makers Rebellion and Motul, which will be fully revealed on April 27th. The Vaillante Rebellion cars have a star-studded driver line up which includes names such as Prost, Senna and Piquet, and should certainly be considered as championship contenders.

A video to announce the comeback of Michel Vaillant at Le Mans was released in February while a second teaser was shared in March. Fans are now looking forward to the third video which release has been announced for Sunday 16th April on Motul social media!

The competition will be fierce and, with all entries using the same chassis, engines and tires, reliability and driver/team performance will be crucial, as the performance of the Motul products used will be.  In the LMGTE Am category for GT cars with a Pro-Am driver line up, the Ferrari of Singapore team Clearwater Racing will be one to watch!

The company has always used, and will continue to use, motorsport as a living laboratory to develop products.  It was in this way that the 300V Motorsport Line dedicated to racing (notably the 300V Le Mans engine oil) was evolved, and the extreme conditions which the WEC’s competitors face during the year (heat, dust, rain, cold, both high and low speeds) are perfect for that development.

After Silverstone, the championship moves on to three more rounds in Europe (Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans and Nürburgring) before going overseas to Mexico, the USA, Japan, China and Bahrain.
