Historic cars call the tune

16.10.2012

The last round of the Classic Endurance Racing series, organised by Peter Auto and involving historic cars, took place as part of the 'Ten Thousand Laps' meet at the Le Castellet circuit in the south of France. The event was a great popular success, with 12,000 spectators, 250 racing cars, and clubs which brought along some 650 collectors' cars. Motul has been a partner of this series for many years and took advantage of it to present its Classic and 300V ranges to the fifty or so club chairmen.

In the CER 1 race, reserved for 1966-1972 prototypes and 1966-1974 GTs, Carlos Monteverde and Bernard Thurner, at the wheel of a Porsche 917 and of a Lola T70, led throughout. However, a two-lap penalty, for having changed driver outside the regulatory time,  relegated them to 9th and 12th places. Steven Read seized the opportunity at the wheel of his very beautiful Ferrari 512 LM, followed by the Chevron B19 of Sandy Watson and the McLaren M1B of Marc Hevia.

In CER 2, the Lolas dominated the racing and shared the first four places. The win was fiercely fought for from beginning to end by Patrice Lafargue and Dominique Guenat, to the final advantage of the former.
The event comprised other races involving sports cars from the 1960s, historic Formula 1s and very rapid Group C prototypes.
