LUCA POZZATO: ITALY IS MY INEXHAUSTIBLE SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

Without any doubt, Italy can be called the historic epicenter of design studios worldwide. Let's take a closer look at the Italian Custom bike design scene. The start of our journey is in Turin, at the studios of Officine GP, who recently released the Ducati Penta V4. An interview withdesigner Luca Pozzato on his way of creating these unique works of art.

Luca, since when have you been customizing bikes and turn them into unique works of art? What’s your story?

There are countless hours I’ve dedicated to my work, to my passion. I was born in Turin in ’73 and grew up in a family motorcycle dealership. Since 2008 I started developing my own concept of personalization. My first real success was in 2009: Suzuki Italy was celebrating its centenary and decides to make three limited series. My team and me were granted the opportunity to develop the project on a blank canvas, from design to the full realization of the bike. Suzuki was incredibly happy with the result. This led to further important collaborations in the following years, including Apple, AMG, Bomboogie, Suzuki Marine, MV Agusta and Honda.

My style is very complex, but at the same time very simple. I always try to create harmony in the project following the fundamental principle of intersecting the three temporal states, past, present and future. I try to create bikes that are timeless but above all are able to tell and express the concepts that the client has asked me to develop. In 2009 a journalist defined me as visionary daydreamer. I think that represents exactly my way of realizing my projects.

Absolutely, yes! I draw with the skills and style of the Turin area and for me, Italy is an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

What is the process when it comes to personalizing a motorcycle?

The first in depth interview with the client is essential to start the creative process. From there it’s a process that takes shape in my dreams creating visions that align in my mind by visualizing the motion contextualizing it and then drawing it. Afterwards it’s followed by the research I do selecting the raw materials that I want to use and which companies that could collaborate on a project.

My dream is to be able to express my art on all different types of objects, not only on motorcycles but also on cars, furniture, fashion, etc. …

What makes your collaboration with Motul this special?

It's a collaboration that originates from the knowledge of Motul products my father has been using in his shop and handed down to me over time. Motul has always been at our side in the family business, by using the Motul brand we want to express quality and specialization. The embodiment of our partnership really took shape with the realization of Motul ONIRIKA 2853. The ONIRIKA was based on the MV Agusta Brutale, which was a great success in brand communication, the project exceeded all expectations on both sides.

We use the entire lubricants line according to our needs. We rely on Motul for the engines and brakes for my special motorcycles. Because of my passion for motorcycles, I like to clean effectively, the extraordinary products of the MC CARE line are always within reach.
