World roof of extreme enduro

For the second consecutive year, Motul has been official partner of the Roof of Africa, the top event of extreme enduro which took place from 3 to 5 December in the mountains of the Kingdom of Lesotho. The international specialist of high performance lubricants also provided its technical support to many teams including the South African structure, Proudly Bidvest Yamaha, which placed Brett Swanepoel on the podium and Jade Gudzeit in the Top 5.

The Roof of Africa attracts each year approximately 400 bikers who must cross 500 kilometres at altitudes varying from 1,500 to 3,000 metres. During day one, the contenders do three laps on a circuit traced in the streets of Maseru before taking part in the timed trials which determine the starting order the next day. In these preliminaries, the Yamahas of team Proudly Bidvest Yamaha did well, Gudzeit, Swanepoel and Gilbert bagging a 2-3-4 formation finish.

Then the main favourites played cat and mouse for two days along a most gruelling route, especially on  the narrow, steep mountain-side tracks that have built the reputation of the race since its creation in 1969. Graham Jarvis finally clinched his third Roof of Africa win with a 20 minutes advantage over Wade Young, but behind the gaps were smaller, as shown by the fight for the last place on the podium, only just bagged by Brett Swanepoel.
