Chaz Davies two steps from the podium

31.05.2012

The Superbike Championship moved to the United States during the BigM weekend for the season's sixth round at Miller Motorsport Park circuit near Salt Lake City. It was a new action-packed episode that the spectators saw with, in race one, a win by  Carlos Checa in front of Marco Melandri. For team Effenbert Ducati, supported by Motul, Jakub Smrz clinched a solid 6th place while   Chaz Davies appeared to have at last found the pace he has been seeking since the beginning of the season for team ParkinGO, which also receives Motul's technical support. He indeed finished 7th on his  Aprilia RSV4 Factory.

Race two was marked by a stop after three laps following Aoyama's fall and didn't start again until after more than an hour's delay. But the show was worth it, with a razor-edge win by Melandri in front of  Rea, following a fall by Checa. Chaz Davies confirmed he was in tip-top shape by battling it out with Biaggi for 3rd place. He finally lost to the latter but without having to be ashamed of this result, his best since the beginning of the season. This performance allows him to win a few precious championship places.
Jakub Smrz finished 9th in this second race, just ahead of a Sylvain Guintoli who didn't appear to be in best shape but who nevertheless stays in 7th position in the championship.

Last, note should also be taken of the participation of the American team Boulder Motorsport in this event. Also supported by Motul in the United States, this team wild-carded on this occasion. Shane Turpin, the team's rider came 18th and 19th in the two races on his Ducati.

For the next round, all the teams will be back in Europe on 10 June, battling it out on the Misano circuit, Italy.
