The Legends of the Mountain : Motul at the Isle of Man TT

For over 100 years, the Isle of Man annually gives itself heart and soul to the world of motorcycling for the legendary Isle of Man TT event, which this year takes place between 26th May and 8th June.  For nine of those years Motul has played an integral part as Official Lubricant Partner plus technical partner to some of the fearless and skilful riders who take part.

Taking place on an island located between North West England and Northern Ireland, the 37-mile (60km) Snaefell Mountain road course is challenging and rewarding for those who get it right, and cruel and unforgiving for those who don’t. A long series of bends, bumps, jumps, stone walls, manhole covers and telegraph poles are just some of the hazards to be negotiated, conquered and ultimately celebrated.  There are seven main categories which include Superbikes, sidecars and zero-emission electric bikes.

A passionate brotherhood combines for the benefit of road and race

Motul will once again be supporting several leading teams which will use the Motul Factory Line range of products.  Crucial among the products will be the 100% synthetic 300V engine oil and RBF 660 Brake Fluid, both of which are key elements to the mechanical reliability and performance needed to claim victory in the TT’s different races.

The use of 300V here in the IOM TT event directly helps develop the 7100 used on the roads daily by bikers – many of whom will be among the 45,000 strong crowd. An integral part of its on-going two-wheel test and development program, the complexity and the duration of the event provides a perfect backdrop for the research which forms Motul’s products of tomorrow: ready for anything, ready for the public at large.

Two-wheel legends, sidecars and the bikes of tomorrow

The lubricant specialist is a major partner with six teams including the renowned factory Honda Racing Team which features a new rider line up of Ian Hutchinson and Lee Johnston on Honda CBR 1000 RRs. ‘Hutchy’, a 16-time TT winner, will take part in the Superbike and Superstock races, while ‘The General’, Johnston, will compete for Honda Racing plus Team Honda Mugen on the Shinden Nana in the TT Zero category for totally electric bikes.

The name of Dunlop needs little introduction in motorcycling, and Michael – a 15-time TT winner of legendary speed – will be racing in his own MD Racing team in the Supersport races.  Also supported by Motul will be Burrows Engineering Racing, with Davey Todd set to make his debut on the Mountain on a Suzuki GSXR 1000 in the Superbike, Senior and Superstock categories.

In sidecars, 2017 FIM World Sidecar Champions Ben and Tom Birchall are looking to defend their 2017 TT crowns and attack their outright sidecar lap record of 19 minutes 19.746 seconds. Against them will be Holden Racing’s super-experienced John Holden with Andy Winkle, looking to repeat his 2016 victory.

All eyes will be on the letter M in a few weeks’ time:  Motul, Mountain, Machines, Isle of Man and Magical Memories!
