The 2015 Ice Speedway Gladiators World Champion, Dmitry Koltakov, whose team is supported by Motul, is participating in his national championship in this start to the winter season. After Final 1, held on 26 and 27 December in Togliatti, he occupies 3rd provisional place after a weekend that was far from relaxing for the Russian rider.
On Saturday, a sixth heat had to be organised to decide between the three contenders who had scored the same total of 14 points. Nikolai Krasnikov managed to pass Dmitry Koltakov in the third lap, while Igor Kononov bagged 3rd place.
The battle between Koltakov and Krasnikov started off again even fiercer on Sunday but led to a fall by Koltakov. Krasnikov had come so close that he touched Koltakov's knee protector with his wheel, throwing the young defending world champion off balance.
The Russian championship will finish on 3 and 4 January in Shchadrinsk, Siberia. The best riders will be qualified for the FIM Ice Speedway Gladiators World Championship to begin the following weekend by the first round of qualifyings in Ylitornio, Finland.
