For the men in the lead, the Superbike Championship final remained uncertain until the last race: Max Biaggi was crowned champion a mere half point ahead of Tom Sykes who himself passed ahead of Melandri again at the very end of the season. The Magny-Cours race on 7 October represents the closest end of all the championship's history.
For the teams supported by Motul, the outcome is largely positive. At ParkinGo, Chaz Davies finished 8th in the second race (the first having been interrupted by an accident), which allowed him to secure 9th place in the championship. For this first season in the Superbike category – which is also the first for ParkinGo — he has been elected best rookie of the year! He indeed deserved the title, mounting the podium four times, with a win at the Nürburgring circuit. 'I would have liked to finish the season with a better race', said Chaz, 'but I admit I've spent several marvellous years in this team which has become a real family for me'.
In Superstock 1000, team Morillas can be satisfied with its result: Jeremy Guarnoni did a superb race, managing to find the best pace in the rain and taking his first win! Even if he joined the team only in the middle of the season, this brilliant result allows him to rank 3rd in the championship.
In Supersport, note is to be made of the participation of Axel Maurin, vice-champion of France 2012, whose team moto-club Sens Motos Sport is supported by Motul.
