The World Superbike Championship has begun! During the weekend of 26 February, the teams met in Australia at the Phillip Island circuit for the first event of this highly spectacular motorcycle championship. This year, Motul is present through its technical partnership with team ParkinGO which distinguished itself last year by winning the Supersport Championship with Chaz Davies on a Yamaha YZF-R6. For 2012, ParkinGO has decided to climb a step higher and contend in Superbike, this time with Aprilia. The Welsh rider was therefore entrusted with a RSV4 in the Phillip Island qualifyings. Unfortunately, he fell at the end of the second session, a situation which was all the more annoying as he was already in a position to qualify time-wise. As he suffered from a wrist injury, he  couldn't participate in the race which was won by a flat-out Max Biaggi on an Aprilia, ahead of Marco Melandri.

In the past, Chaz Davies made a name for himself by being the youngest rider to have ever won a speed event: in 2001 when he was a mere 14 he bagged victory at Thruxton, in the 125 cm3  Championship of England race. Ten years later, his talent has brought him to the heart of one of the most prestigious motorcycle racing series. He now has a month to get over his emotions before the second round scheduled to take place in Imola, Italy, on 1 April.
