The rider has his machine and the physiotherapist has his too!

Behind the scenes with Filippo Camaschella, Team HRC’s physio specialist

Motocross is one of the most demanding forms of motor sport for the bikes and also for the riders. We have decided to take a closer look at this aspect by talking to Filippo Camaschella, the Team HRC physiotherapist since the beginning of 2017.

Like his team Filippo is Italian. He is 30 years old and was the motocross champion in his region, Piemont. He stopped racing when he set up as a physiotherapist in 2013. Three years later he discovered the benefits of a machine, an electromagnetic simulator of microcirculation. It maximises the body’s recuperation capacity by acting on microcirculation. This blood flow, which goes through the smallest blood vessels, supplies the tissues and cells with oxygen and nutritive substances. “When you’re tired your blood is loaded with toxins and the muscles lack oxygen. My machine works on the microcirculation and helps the body to recover much more rapidly.” Well-known sportsmen like world champion Marc Màrquez also use this technique.

But what does the team physiotherapist do when the riders are in tip-top form? “This is when you have the most work. On Friday, I spend an hour-and-a-half with each rider so that he’ll be completely relaxed before starting to make big muscular efforts. If, on the other hand, the rider has a specific physical problem we’ll focus on that. And if he’s making a comeback after injury, like Tim Gajser at Valkenswaard, the body may be okay, but because he hasn’t been able to ride and train there’s a lot of work to be done on the muscles.” There too Filippo and his machine perform miracles!
