Australian Superbike Championship - Phillip Island - Australia

05.03.2012

First race, first win of the season for Josh Waters

2009 Australian Superbike title-holder, Josh Waters had set his mind on asserting himself at the inaugural race at the Phillip Island circuit on 25 and 26 February. He was all the more motivated as this year he has become a full-time member of Team Suzuki managed by Phil Tainton and supported by Motul. After clinching pole position, Josh was off to a very fast start for the first 14-lap race and was in the lead to the finish. In the second race, in very hot weather, he let Wayne Maxwell pass and, despite an attempt to pass him before the arrival line, victory escaped him by half a second! These brilliant results allowed him to climb on to the top step of the podium for the overall results and take the lead of the championship, which is extremely encouraging for the team.

For Phil Tainton "Josh has been excellent as always and has adapted really well to the new GSX-R 1000. It is very close to the previous model but with obvious improvements.' Josh Waters spirits are high: 'It was really good to start the season with this win. I am already very confident in the motorcycle, and I hope we keep up this pace in Darwin.'

In Supersport, the team entered Brodie Waters who managed to climb on to the third step of the podium for the overall results, with his GSX-R 600.

All the teams will meet again in Darwin, on 20-22 April, for the second round of the championship.
