An unforgettable MotoGP weekend with Motul

It has always been a yearly affair for Motul to host more than a hundred guests at the Malaysian round of the MotoGP calendar, but this year it was made extra special for two guests from Singapore who joined us on our journey to Malaysia. They were part of a contest held in collaboration with Motor Culture Asia, a regional motorcycle magazine, and the winner (Rave Chen) and his invited guest got to experience a once-in-a-life-time weekend, complete with an exclusive tour of the Monster Yamaha Tech3 pit garage. Below is his experience of the whole weekend.

“This was my first time attending a MotoGP race and it was everything I expected, and much more! The atmosphere is electric and you can literally smell the passion in the air.

The whole experience was well-planned out and it was really fun to join the Motul guys. They made sure we were all very comfortable throughout the event. However, the heat was definitely worse than expected. As a walkaround spectator I could feel the burden of the scorching sun. I cannot imagine how much discomfort the riders have wearing their leathers and racing for their life on the gruelling track in intense heat and humidity. Fortunately we could go to the hospitality area where we had food and drinks and even obtained autographs from the riders.

It was a fantastic experience to be among the 80,000-strong spectators at the Sepang International Circuit to witness Marquez of the Repsol Honda Team winning arguably his best race of the season. This was his 12th victory in only his second season in MotoGP, a feat that equalled Mick Doohan’s record of the most premier class victories in a single season.Pol Espargaro of Monster Yamaha Tech3 was also a revelation on race day, after having suffered a huge crash on Saturday’s race. The Spaniard suffered a broken bone on his left foot but bravely challenged his way to sixth place in the race. Will the Motul-sponsored rider be in contention for ‘Rookie of the Year’? That’s my bet when the championship’s finally over!”

Well, it seems like Rave was spot on, as Pol was indeed crowned Rookie of The Year after the Valencia round on 9 November!
