MV AGUSTA AND MOTUL: IT’S NOT ABOUT THE DESTINATION; IT’S ALL ABOUT THE JOURNEY.

31.05.2018

One of the most historic and legendary motorcycle manufacturers, MV Agusta, signed a wide-ranging global partnership in 2016 with Motul. The deal covers use of the company’s extensive range of products at all levels in the Italian marque’s factory, plus a first-fill and service fill for all motorcycles bearing the prestigious brand’s name.

We visited the MV Agusta’s production facilities in Varese with a group of five professional journalists for a factory tour and short talk with MV Agusta’s President Giovanni Castiglioni and his Head of Research & Development Brian Gillen. After, we enjoyed discovering the breathtaking Italian scenery on the iconic MV Agusta Motorcycles.

MV AGUSTA AND MOTUL: IT’S NOT ABOUT THE DESTINATION; IT’S ALL ABOUT THE JOURNEY.

Inside the factory, every machine is built by hand by a team of specialized technicians.

The factory in Schiranna is a truly unique place where dreams are handmande, and exclusive machines created. From the hangars on the shores of Lake Varese, where seaplanes were once built and launched, MV Agusta continues in its longstanding tradition of craftsmanship and advanced engineering. Curiously enough, there is no automation on the factory floor; each motorcycle is assembled by expert hands.

Mr. Castiglioni, President of MV Agusta Factory, explains their focus on craftsmanship, design and engineering.

Mr. Castiglioni, how do you regard the partnership with Motul in terms of engineering?

I do not consider this a simple business partnership with a leading brand in the lubricants industry, but a tribute to the fundamental ingredient in the process of manufacturing our motorbikes; a completely handmade process in which every gear is assembled entirely by hand. I am delighted that this ingredient has finally found its place of prominence with our new agreement.

Mr. Gillen, in your role as Head of Research & Development in the factory, what are the technical advantages of collaborating with Motul?

MV Agusta’s R&D core focus is to develop and apply advanced technologies to meet our exclusive customers ever-increasing demands for performance and durability, while at the same time meeting stringent legislation limits for emissions and noise reduction. Motul is a strategic partner in this journey, offering a complete range of technical solutions in the never-ending battle against friction and the reduction of contact stress.

The road trip: it's not about the destination; it's all about the journey.

The trip was precisely planned via another Motul-partner, namely Motorcycle Diaries. The four-day road trip took us from the Factory Schiranna, through the scenic hills around the Como Lake, while resting and enjoying the beautiful Verona leading to our final destination, Imola.

The MV Agusta brand has a long-held passion for competition, as does Motul, and the new OEM partnership includes a joint venture in the Motul FIM World Superbike Championship with the MV Agusta Reparto Corse Team. All MV Agusta competition bikes have been using products from the Motul Factory Line range, especially the famous 300V lubricants as well as Motul MC Care products.
