Pescarolo Team and Greaves Motorsport leave with the laurels!

The last round of the Le Mans Series 2011 schedule was held in Estoril, Portugal, on 25 September. Appearing among the tops of the bill, Pescarolo team was of course present to try and clinch the rider and team titles. An ambitious goal to say the least, since, despite an excellent season, the team from the Sarthe department had left precious points escape at Silverstone following tyre problems (cf. Motul Sport News No.34). Therefore, to leave with two crowns, Henri Pescarolo's men had to obtain pole position and also win the race.

Unfortunately, for want of 0.20 second, this crazy bet did not materialise, the Lola No.12 of team Rebellion taking pole position by a narrow margin. Nevertheless, in the race, team Pescarolo battled fiercely for the 1000 km with the British team. Indeed, less than 5 minutes from the end, only 20 seconds separated Julien Jousse (Pescarolo) from Christophe Bouillon (Rebellion).

In the end, the 'Pesca boys' triumphed! This second win of the season therefore allowed the team to clinch the driver title.

In LMP2, after team Boutsen Energy left  the track in the last lap, team TDS Racing (Oreca 03 – Nissan), which had been lying in ambush, took advantage of the fact to finish its first Endurance season with a new win. Also supported by Motul, team Greaves Motorsport (Zytek – Nissan) finished second. After a perfect season (win in Le Mans, at Le Castellet and in Imola) the English team is the new LMP2 Champion 2011. An amply deserved title which the team owes partly to its young prodigy, Olivier Lombard. Recruited during the season, this 20 year old young Frenchie is now seen as one of the most promising Endurance hopefuls of his generation!
