In his ninth season of MotoGP, Colin Edwards called upon all his vast experience to great effect at Estoril in the Portuguese Grand Prix. Edwards launched a brave challenge to Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso on lap ten but eventually the Texan came home in sixth place, the best finish by a non-factory rider.
The Team Yamaha Tech3 rider finished two places in front of his teammate, the rookie Cal Crutchlow. For a long while Crutchlow, the 2009 World Supersport champion, was involved in a battle with Hiroshi Aoyama for seventh place until finally losing out to the Japanese rider on the final lap of the circuit
For the Suzuki team, Estoril proved a disappointment for Alvaro Bautista a month after breaking his thigh bone in a fall in the Qatar GP. The Team Rizla Suzuki rider had to be content with a 13th place finish.
With less than two weeks to go to the France Grand Prix, all eyes are now on the legendary Le Mans circuit at which the drivers of the French-led Yamaha Tech3 team will be hoping to shine in front of their home crowd !
