After Qatar, Portugal, Russia and Ukraine, the 2011 F1 Boat Championship went to China where two rounds were held. On the programme, an event in Shenzhen to be held on 5 and 6 November, and another round which was held on 1 and 2 October. Ideally located on the banks of river Liu, this city in the autonomous region of Guangxi, with a population of 3,800,000, had all the assets to host a round of the world championship.
On the water, a long-time partner of team CTIC China Team, Motul was represented by the boats of Pierre Lundin (Switzerland) and of Philippe Chiappe (Frenchman). It was precisely the latter who managed to make the most of the power of his Moore – Mercury 2.5L. Having secured third time during the qualifying heats, the French driver shone brilliantly in the lead during the race. Fighting it out for a long time with the present leader Jay Price (Qatar Team), Philippe Chiappe managed to take advantage of a mistake by the latter in the last laps to finally secure his second podium of the season.
Meanwhile, Pierre Lundin took 7th place.
