South to the sun and Gran Premio Motul de la República Argentina!

06.04.2017

The rain may have played its part in Qatar for the opening round of the 2017 MotoGP season, but nothing could stop the race being an edge-of-the-seat thriller with encouraging performances from Motul’s supported teams and riders.

MotoGP now travels to the second largest country in South America for the Gran Premio Motul de la República Argentina. Round two of the 2017 season takes place at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo from 07-09 April, and is the first of four MotoGP races for which Motul is title sponsor.

GAUCHOS, PAMPAS AND PASSION

Motul’s motorsport presence in the important South American market is on the rise, with the announcement two weeks ago that, from 2018, Motul will be a major partner with the Dakar Rally.  Title sponsorship of the Argentinian MotoGP race for a second consecutive year reinforces this presence and visibility as it is the second biggest motorsport event in the country.

A GOOD START FROM SUZUKI, YAMAHA AND APRILIA

In Qatar last weekend, three Motul supported riders finished in the top ten with Aprilia (Aleix Espargaro) taking an extremely encouraging 6th place which is the best result to date for the RS-GP.  Yamaha Tech3’s two rookies made their mark in impressive fashion and got the momentum underway for the season: Johann Zarco lead the race for the first 7 laps ahead of all the big stars, and team mate Jonas Folger finished 10th on his MotoGP debut.  Watch out for these two in 2017!   Suzuki MotoGP’s Andrea Iannone started 2nd on the grid, showing speed and determination, and was fighting for a podium until a fall.  His rookie team mate Alex Rins finished a creditable 9th on his debut at the top level.

The Motul teams are looking good for a podium in Argentina, which will no doubt be another thriller but hopefully without the rain!
