Motul supporting the finest historic racing cars

04.07.2012

The Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or is one of France's oldest historic racing car competitions, this year's event on 23 and 24 June being the 48th. After having been held at the Le Mans and Montlhéry circuits, it moved to Dijon ten years or so ago and remains a highlight on the historic racing agenda attracting clubs, professionals, collectors and drivers. A partner of the event, Motul gave special support to the GT & Sports Car Cup line-up of Flavien and Vanessa Marçais.

For a two hour race, it consisted in a grid of 50 superb machines from the 1950s and 1960s, among the most beautiful classic cars having zoomed along the circuits of their day, such as Jaguar Type Es, AC Cobras or Lotus 11s. Category GT4 indeed saw a close tussle between Leo Voyazides' Cobra and John Clark's Type E, to the final advantage of the former, while Martin Melling and his Type E completed the podium.

In SP1, reserved for under 2 litre sports cars, Franck Trouillard and Joël Rondoni, at the wheel of a Lotus 11 Le Mans, took advantage of Michel Wanty and José Beltramelli's withdrawal to take the lead and keep it all the way through to the arrival thanks to fast driver changes. Meanwhile, category GT3 took advantage of the exceptional presence of the three Morgan +4 SLRs produced and of two 'historic' Morgan drivers, Keith Ahlers — winner of his category — and Bill Wykeham. Last, the GT2s saw the win of Joe Ward's TVR Grantura after the withdrawal of Jason Wright's Alfa Giulia TZ, while categories GT1 and SP2 were won respectively by Laurence Jacobsen's Lotus Elite and Stephen Bond's Maserati 250 S.

The next GTSCC meet will take place during the Algarve Historic Festival, from 19 to 21 October.
