Todd Waters and Cody Cooper on the podium once more

27.08.2012

Nothing is set in stone, and the Australian Motocross Champion is still uncrowned, following the penultimate race of the season on 19th August in Moree.  At the controls of their RM-Z 450 bikes, the two Motul Pirelli Suzuki riders were awarded 2nd and 3rd places overall after three cumulative races.  Todd Waters is now separated from Josh Coppins, who leads the championship, by just 17 points and will be making every effort to catch up at the final round on 25/26th August at the Coolum circuit on the “Sunshine Coast”.

At Moree, Waters started the weekend well with a win in the first race but he then slipped back after finishing 3rd in the second and 2nd in the third.  Teammate Cody Cooper had an equally good weekend with a 3rd in the first race, a victory in the second, and a 5th to end with.

“You can’t complain about 2nd place,” related Waters, “but I still thought I could do better. In the second race I got trapped at the first corner and I finished third. And in the last race I made some big mistakes while chasing after Josh [Coppins].”
Cody Cooper said, “I felt good until the last race which gave me more trouble. Everyone rode well and the pace was high, but my starts were good after having worked very hard on them.”  In the Championship he is 14 points behind Brad Anderson, so can also potentially move up a spot. The final event is going to be well attended!

Finally, because good news never comes on its own, we must mention Todd Waters’ selection for the next Motocross of Nations event to be held in Lommel (Belgium) in September. He will have the formidable task of representing Australia. Held since 1947, this prestigious event each year brings together the best riders in the world. We wish him all the success he deserves!
