Fun Cup - Le Mans – France

20.03.2012

A steering wheel at Le Mans for ACO track marshals

The Fun Cup, as its name states, is a simple racing series which allows one to have fun without great expense. With Motul as technical partner and Max Mamers as organiser, the championship   consists in a one-make racing series: all the cars are identical, have a VW/Audi bodywork and petrol or diesel engine in the central-rear position, and look like the famous VW Beetle.

They compete in 5 to 8 hour endurance events and there is even a 24 hour race at Magny-Cours. The first race of the season is to be held on 24 and 25 March at the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest is going to take advantage of it to reward its track marshals! As the Club is aware that without these volunteers, who do not count their time, no race would be possible (there are 1,700 of them at the 24 Hours of Le Mans...), it decided to let seven of them have a steering wheel at the next eight hours round.

A selection was of course necessary, first of all by selecting from their track record  and then following a karting event at the Alain Prost circuit. Following these tests, the first team of ACO track marshals is made up of  Pascal Corbin, Jean-Yves Garnier, Mickaël Hermange, Jean-Sébastien Landry, Francis Lechartier, Jean-Jacques Pietri and Thomas Lassagne, as a replacement. There's no doubt that these 'local lads' will know how to make the most of their experience accumulated flag in hand!
