The German Rallycross Championship final, at Gross Döln near Berlin, allowed Andreas Steffen to finish the season beautifully and win the Super1600 title, at the wheel of his Skoda Fabia RS. In the last event, after securing the best time in the qualifyings, the driver from Buxtehude had an excellent start and led the race all the way through to the end. Having equal points as his rival, Bernd Schomaker, his ten wins of the season (as against six for Schomaker) allowed him to climb the highest step of the podium. 'The season was difficult for us', admitted Jürgen Steffen, manager of Steffen Motorsport, supported technically by Motul. 'We had many spanners put in the works but we were totally focussed on our results, which was the key to our success.' For Andreas Steffen, 'We proved we were really in the lead pack. This title is for us one step further ahead, which I'd like to transform next year by getting the team involved at European level.'
