Willis Ninth and Wilson Fourth At Murray Bridge MX Nationals For Raceline Pirelli Suzuki

20.05.2012

Raceline Pirelli Suzuki rising stars Errol Willis and Jay Wilson finished in ninth and fourth positions respectively in the South Australian round of the MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, at Murray Bridge on Sunday, 20 May.

Pro Lites class rookie Willis was ninth overall as he continues to learn the ropes of the pro ranks, claiming 12th in moto one and ninth in moto two to commence the round.
A better start in the final outing aboard the RM-Z250 saw Willis race to fifth, securing him another top 10 position and retaining 10th in the standings.

“My day wasn’t too bad, but we struggled a bit off the start and couldn’t really get off the gate, so the results reflected that,” Willis said. “For the last race we made a tyre change and I got the holeshot, which worked out good.

“It was a good moto, just hanging on the back of the front guys and I felt comfortable again. I’m looking forward to the break and then the next couple of rounds, which will be good.”

Raceline Pirelli Suzuki teammate Wilson was a fine fourth in the Under 19s Development category, battling amongst the front of the field throughout the round.

Wilson was second in moto one, 12th in moto two and concluded the day with fourth in the final outing. He’s now fifth in the standings despite battling a pre-season wrist injury, which continues to gain strength as the year progresses.

“I’m feeling pretty good now and my training is really starting to pay off,” Wilson said. “Just coming back from a wrist injury, I think I’m getting back to where I can be.

“I put in a couple of good rides today and I was happy with how I rode, but the results didn’t really show it. I just need to work on upper body strength a little bit and I think that we can be right there.”

The MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will continue at Hervey Bay in Queensland on Sunday, 1 July.
