European Le Mans Series / Le Castellet

11.04.2012

Thiriet leaves no chance to his adversaries

The Paul Ricard circuit hosted on 31 March and 1 April the 6 Hours of Le Castellet, the inaugural race of the European Le Mans Series. After clinching pole position, the Oreca-Nissan of Pierre Thiriet and Mathias Beche, of team Thiriet by TDS, achieved a faultless performance, finishing in the lead and securing the best race lap.  Among the other teams supported technically by Motul, Greaves Motorsport — the defending champion team — was in a position to threaten the leading teams, with the Zytek of Brundle/Kimber-Smith/Ordoñez. However it came off the road once and received a stop and go penalty on account of a bodywork part lost on the track, which prevented it from mounting the podium.

A godsend for Status GP which clinched 3rd place, with the Lola-Judd entrusted to Stirling/Sims/Buurman, the latter even having managed to keep the lead for several laps at the beginning of the event: 'With a car finished last week, it's an excellent result,' declared Yelmer Buurman.

In GTE Pro, JMB Racing and Kessel Racing, teams supported technically by Motul, placed their Ferrari 458 Italias respectively 2nd and 3rd of their category, JMB having clinched the pole and finishing also 3rd of the GTE Am category.

As the Zolder event, scheduled for May, has been cancelled, the teams will meet again on 13-15 July in Donnington. Meanwhile, teams wishing to do so can participate in the FIA-WEC round in Spa, on 5-6 May.
